Submission Guidelines

How many photos can I submit?

Prints:

Traditional (Color) = 1
Monochrome = 1
Altered Reality (Creative) = 1

Digitally Projected:

Traditional (Color) = 1
Monochrome = 1
Altered Reality (Creative) = 1

Only 1 entry per category in each type (Print & Digital)
A total of 6 entries can be entered each clinic

Print Submissions

  • Must be taken by the entrant.
  • Entries must be submitted on the designated date set out in the Club Calendar.
  • If entered in Altered Reality (Creative) category, entry form must also give brief description of technique(s) employed to make the entry “Altered Reality”.
  • Prints submitted in any Saskatoon Camera Club clinic or competition cannot be re-entered in any future clinic or competition of the Saskatoon Camera Club.

Physical Sizes

  • All prints must be the specified size for the category unless otherwise stated.
  • Popular:  8×10 print plus a mat
  • Maximum: 16 x 20 overall (with mat)
  • Minimum: 8 x 10 (without mat)

Putting your submission together

  • All prints must be mounted with a stiff backing (foam core preferred) unless otherwise stated
  • Matte is optional. If matted, please make sure it is taped sufficiently. No scotch tape. Masking tape or painters tape seems to work well.
  • Framed work will not be accepted.
  • All prints must be submitted in a sturdy cardboard folder or firm bubble pack envelope.

** Digital images of your print submissions can be email to webmaster@saskatooncameraclub.com to be included on the website galleries.  Please use the same file names as specified for digital entries.

Image Preparation & Requirements

The Print and Slide/Digital Committees will interpret and apply these rules at each club competition and have the right to reject any entry not properly presented or labeled.

File Type

  • Images must be submitted as JPEGs. Mac users must add .jpg or .jpeg extension.

File Names

  • File name must include category, title of image, first name and last name.

Format: Category-Title of Image-FirstName LastName.jpg
Category: TR (Traditional Color), BW (B&W / Monochrome), AR (Altered Reality/Creative), PO (Portait – Yearend Only)

Example: TR-Pelican In Flight-John Doe.jpg

Method of Submission

  • Images can be emailed no later than 10pm on the submission deadline date.
  • Email subject line should be the name of the clinic.
  • If you entered in the Altered Reality (Creative) category, your email must also give brief description of technique(s) used to make the entry “Altered Reality”
  • Remember that only club members can submit to any club competitions.

** The following criteria is based on the optimal settings of our digital projector and the method which your photo will be judged.  You can simply email your full resolution image with the proper file name and in jpg format.

Image Quality

  • Use maximum of 100 image quality when saving image using the Save for Web method, or use Maximum of 12 when using the Image Save method.
  • Use no more than 72-96 dots/inch resolution.

Color Space

  • Convert files to sRGB color space if required.
  • Images saved in other color spaces such as Adobe RGB will be accepted but may not display with the colors you expect.

Dimensions

  • The maximum image size is 1024 x 768 (width x height) per image.
  • Vertical images have a maximum height of 768 pixels tall.
  • Images must be in the proper orientation for viewing when projected.
  •  Images do not have to have a 4:3 aspect ratio.

File Size

  • If you follow the above recommendation, your file should be around 1-2Mb in size but we do not limit the file sizes when submitting.  Just remember that if your file is too big, you might not be able to email it.

PhotoShop Action Script

Need an easy way to format your image for submission purposes?

Scott Prokop created an Action script that will take your currently open image in Photoshop and resize it, set it to SRGB and then all you have to do is save it.

Year-end Presentation Submissions

Guidelines

  1. Use any style for your presentation (travelogue, photo essay, multi-projector)
  2. Digital presentation or you can use a slide projector
  3. 10 minutes max.
  4. Digital projector resolution: 1024×768
  5. Digital Images: 72 dpi minimum
  6. Narration or music optional

PowerPoint

1. Open PowerPoint
2. Choose Insert > Picture >New Photo Album…
3. Enter your options into the Photo Album dialog box…
4. Click Create and then edit the order, add text, add transitions, change background….
