August 27, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Light up the night this evening with flashlights, sparklers, glow sticks, steel wool, or anything else you can think up. Sunset will be at 8:05 and twilight after 8:45.
Tuesday August 27th at 7:00 PM — Light painting / fire spinning
Location: Chief Whitecap park
Contact: Dale Boan
The plan is to do steel wool spinning, LED lights, and light painting. We may have a fire performer.
What we do is weather permitting.
We could try photographing the milky way at the end but we are still really close to the city.
—Location—
Sandbar near the south end of the park https://goo.gl/maps/PeeyZKNZghxev8Rm6
GPS coordinates (52.067681,-106.728872)
This is NOT an accessible location (sorry). There is a walk down and back up the riverbank (10m elevation change). There is lots of sand, natural paths, etc.
—-How to get there—
We will meet as a group in the main parking lot at 7pm and walk to the river.
—-Getting there on your own—
Park in the main parking lot.
Follow the main path until you get here https://goo.gl/maps/5DhePPPd2Qvk5Qbi6
Take the path down the hill and follow the most used paths (generally straight)
You should end up here https://goo.gl/maps/PeeyZKNZghxev8Rm6
GPS coordinates (52.067681,-106.728872)
I will add some pictures. In sequence from the parking lot.
IF you follow the main path a long time (1km) and get to another gate you have gone too far. Turn around and come back
IF you take the wrong path through the trees, Take the main paths south and west. They should lead you to the sandbar. It seems very far the first time. There are a lot of trails and you can wander for quite a while, but it is a lovely walk.
—What to bring:—
Camera
Tripod (highly recommended)
Headlamp or flashlight – 1 for the walk back and to find gear
A towel or blanket to place gear on so it does not get sandy
Shoes with reasonable grip. The river bank is steep
Jacket, bug spray
Maybe shorts or a swimsuit if you want shoot from the water
If you look online there are lots of DIY LED or glow stick projects.
